Dark Hall Coffee

Don’t let the fact that this place is located in the corner of a strip mall steer you away. It has a unique atmosphere with beautiful artwork and a dark floral wallpaper that you don’t want to miss. Dark Hall Coffee (same owners as The Coronado PHX) specializes in plant-based drinks and pastries. Lattes, cortados and cappuccinos are all dairy-free. They use a milk blend made from cashews and other nuts. They have quite a variety of vegan pasties as well. Lavender & pistachio cakes, macarons, salted chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls and shortbread drizzled with chocolate are just some examples of the yumminess that they make up daily. My favorite are the galettes. I’ve seen fig apple, peach and blueberry. I love the fruity gelatinous center of the pastry and it pairs well with my coffee. This isn’t the largest place so maybe plan on getting your order to go. Dark Hall is definitely worth a stop in if you are in the area.

1( 9) inch deep dish pie crust (or a regular 9 inch crust)

For Custard.
1 cup white sugar
1/3 cup all purpose flour
1/8 tsp salt
2 eggs, beaten

In another bowl, combine 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup flour. Cut in the butter with pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Sprinkle the topping over the sour cream mixture and berries in the pie shell.
Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 55 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool on wire rack.
Cover the pie with foil for the first 20 minutes of baking to keep the crust from browning to much.

Crepes

I love making crepes. Crepes are made from a liquid batter (usually made of eggs and flour) that is cooked in a frying pan and then folded and filled with a filling of your choosing – ham, vegetables, fruits etc. Crepes come from the Latin word crispa, which means “curled” and are popular in France. I made blueberry/banana crepes this morning with cinnamon rolls.

Coffee in Sausalito

While hanging out in Sausalito, we found a Starbucks nearby to satisfy our caffeine fix. The line was a little long, but they are located right next to the shore where you get great views of San Francisco. I order a coffee and a blueberry danish. We grabbed our order to go and went outside to enjoy the nice breeze.
