I have so many memories here at the Phoenician going back to high school days. They have been going through some renovations and Mowry & Cotton is their fancy new casual restaurant geared to draw in both visitors and locals. This was one of those fun dress-up Yelp events that incorporated the beautiful views of the Phoenician resort. Mowry & Cotton has a large open patio with amazing décor (the growler wall was a nice touch). We were given the story behind this place from the GM. He mentioned that it is named after George Mowry and James Cotton – two businessmen who opened one of Phoenix’s earliest drinking establishments. We were treated with their signature drink (called the Washington & 1st) from their awesome bartender who worked his butt off for us. It was a blend of commerce gin, St Germain elderflower, blackberry, lime & bitters. I got so caught up with my drinks and the conversation at my table that I forgot to check out the food samples they prepared for us. The seafood was gone when I got there, but I did get to try some of their flatbread pizza. The Wild Mushroom and the Chicken Pesto were both pretty flavorful. But I didn’t miss out on desserts. They had these awesome Lemon Meringue, S’Mores and a Peanut Butter Bar samples that capped off the night. I enjoyed mixing it up with some long time Elites and enjoyed meeting some of the new ones. The best part was the awesome gifts Mowry & Cotton gave us – a choice of a cutting board, a branding iron or an apron. All three were pretty killer. Thanks to our Yelp staff for always being amazing and treating us Elites to a fun night. Read my full post about Mowry & Cotton here.
I love it when the weather starts cooling off. For me, autumn means layers of clothes, chili and bonfires. Tonight we had a fun fellowship night of corn hole, s’mores and music. I’m very blessed to have a great group of friends to do life with and thankful for moments like this to be in community. Tonight got me excited for the upcoming holidays.
I’ve been doing Restaurant Week for years. It’s my way to check out new restaurants at a good price. I’ve had a few on my list that I have been wanting to go to and the hard part for me planning them throughout my already busy week. But Beckett’s Table came highly recommended and my friend Lisa Marie was available to join. You get a choice from a 3 course dinner menu for $30. I started off with the achiote citrus poached n chilled shrimp with avocado puree and black beans. For my main course, I tried the cola braised pulled pork with cole slaw. This was amazing! The meat was so tender and I loved the cola aftertaste that followed. For dessert, I tried the bacon chocolate s’mores with caramel sauce and peanut butter mousse. Now I’m not quite getting the bacon flavor trend going on, but I can see how bacon and chocolate are paired up. You get this rich chocolate flavor at first followed by a bacon aftertaste – very interesting. I loved the peanut butter mousse. This was an amazing experience and I look forward to visiting again.

So I have a friend that made these amazing treats for a fundraiser. I want to eventually feature her on my blog because she makes amazing pasties – so I am giving a sneak preview of one of her awesome creations. These are s’mores that she modified from a Pinterest recipe. I told her she has gotten me the itching to cook again and that I look forward to cooking a gourmet meal alongside her amazing desserts someday.
The boys and I took a drive up north to Payson, AZ for winter break and stayed at Kohl’s Ranch. The Mogollon Rim area is one of my favorite spots and I love driving up here to look at the trees. We played horseshoe, made s’mores and relaxed for the evening. I loved chilling in the lobby with a book around the fire with a cup of coffee. Good memories.
There’s nothing like driving up to the Mogollon Rim and doing some camping. I love making a fire and cooking some burgers on the grill. Then afterward comes the kid’s favorite part – S’mores! My fiance made a great salad and we enjoyed some wine while looking at the stars. A little fine dining in the woods.
